Prostate cancer

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer and the second cause of cancer mortality in men. They usually do not cause symptoms, so it is important to detect it early.

Measurement of prostate antigen and digital rectal examination are required to evaluate consistency suspicious for cancer in the prostate. If the antigen is elevated or a prostate suspicious for cancer is palpated, it will be necessary to perform a prostate biopsy.

As a preventive measure, you should have a prostate antigen and rectal examination starting at age 50 or starting at age 40 if you have family members who have had prostate cancer.

The treatment of prostate cancer depends on the stage in which it is at the time of diagnosis. When it is located in the prostate, we can perform advanced curative treatments such as laparoscopic and robotic surgery. In advanced cases, other therapies to control the cancer will be necessary.

Our urologist who performs robotic prostate surgery has international certification in the United States and training in France in robotic surgery, training and research in prostate cancer in England and is the first Yucatecan surgeon in the entire country to perform surgery of such a high technological level. .

Kidney cancer

It is a common tumor in the urinary tract and very aggressive if not treated in time. It normally begins with urine in the blood in up to 30% of patients who suffer from it.

Some smaller tumors can be removed without having to remove the entire kidney and thus kidney function can be preserved.

We offer the most advanced treatments that exist to treat this disease: laparoscopic and robotic surgery, which allows less pain, less scarring and better oncological results.

Our training in England in the treatment of minimally invasive tumors of the urinary system will surely give you a better prognosis.

Prostate growth

Prostate growth is a benign condition that is related to age; from the age of 50, one in every 2 men will have signs or symptoms derived from prostate growth.

If this condition is not treated in time, it can cause damage to the kidneys due to obstruction, frequent urinary infections, stones in the bladder, bleeding when urinating and also affect your quality of life.

It can present as going to urinate very frequently or urgently, getting up many times at night to urinate, straining when urinating, or decreased urinary stream.

For its diagnosis, studies such as a urine test and an ultrasound of the bladder and prostate are required. If surgery is required, we are one of the few urological groups in the entire country that performs all the endoscopic treatments that exist for this condition, such as transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) with monopolar or bipolar energy, enucleation of the prostate with red laser (HoLEP) and vaporization of the prostate with green laser (Greenlight).

We are highly specialized urologists with a UNAM postgraduate degree in endoscopic procedures.

Kidney stones

Also known as kidney stones, they are very common in the Yucatan Peninsula and can cause intense pain, recurrent urinary tract infection, and bleeding when urinating. In some cases they can affect kidney function.

There are different factors that increase the risk of a stone appearing, such as low fluid intake, obesity and high blood pressure.

Treatments aimed at removing the stone and unclogging can range from medical treatment to surgical treatment.

Our highly specialized urologists provide the least invasive procedures to solve this condition and thus avoid open surgery such as endoscopic and percutaneous surgery.

Urinary tract infections

They are common conditions that can appear as an increase in the frequency of going to urinate, pain when urinating, bad urine odor, among others.

When they become complicated, difficulty urinating, suprapubic pain and fever may appear.

Prompt and timely evaluation is important, as well as urine examination and urine culture and sometimes imaging studies to assess whether there is any organic factor that makes the infection persistent.

Fimosis

It is characterized by difficulty retracting the skin that surrounds the glans of the penis (foreskin).

In some cases it can be a risk factor for penile cancer. The main indication for treatment is to undergo a circumcision, which is an outpatient procedure that allows you to return to your activities soon and without discomfort.

Laparoscopic surgery

Surgery is a minimally invasive procedure that is used to treat kidney or prostate tumors as well as for certain stones depending on their location in the urinary tract. It is a procedure that causes less pain since they are millimeter incisions that allow a quick recovery and good results.

Robotic surgery

It is the most advanced technology in the world for surgery for prostate cancer and resection of kidney tumors while preserving the kidney. It is performed through a console while the surgeon moves the arms of the robot that contains the instruments inside the patient. It is a procedure that obtains the best results with greater precision thanks to third-dimensional vision in addition to the precision of the robot’s arms. It allows better preservation of erectile function and urinary continence in prostate cancer surgeries.
